Proverbs 4.20-27 paraphrased

20 ¶ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.	You really need to listen to this. What I am going to tell you is of prime importance so take heed to it.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.	You not only need to read what I am writing to you often, but you should think and meditate on it too.
22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.	For what I am going to tell you is of prime importance and offers you the opportunity to find what we all want. Health and life.
23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.	Guard your heart (the innermost part of your being) continually, for from your heart proceeds the qualities that make up who you really are. Keep yourself from the things which can defile your heart (such as unforgiveness) and the other things I have listed below.
24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.	Clean up your mouth and do not use lying, deceit, or foul language, and do not curse others. Neither hear the foul language, gossip, and curses of others.
25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.	Keep your mind focused on what is before you and be of a single mind. Do not let the enemy distract you from what the LORD has placed before you to do.
26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.	Consider what you do before you do it, and think about what you are going to say before you say it. Make good choices that will give you a life that is built upon a firm foundation.
27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.	And turn not from the commandments of the LORD, neither to the right nor to the left. And keep away from the scenes of temptation and from places where evil is prevalent.
